Newsletter

I have been pondering the term NEWS LETTER, and have come to the conclusion that it should contain both news, and a letter.  I find writing letters therapeutic and fun, and I hope you will enjoy receiving one each month.  If I had my way, you would receive it on pretty stationary with a colourful stamp and a wax seal on the back.  I will do my best to make you feel like you just got it in the mail.  (perhaps you should walk back and forth to your mailbox, just to get into the spirit of it! 🙂

Dear Friend;

How are you doing?  And I really mean that.  How are you?  Honesty is the best policy here so please feel free to be honest about how you are. I care deeply about your state of being, and if I could, I would protect you from harm.  Just like calcium. Did you know that calcium responds to stress in your body?  It mobilizes outward and moves into your tissues, and eventually your hair.  If it could, it would move outside your body and create an egg shell effect around you to protect you from stress. Calcium in your tissues isn’t a good thing, but we know how to fix that so I’m hoping I can help in some small way to make you feel better.

Let me tell you a little about myself so we can become better acquainted.  I am the middle child of 3 of us.  (I can hear you groaning already…..yes, middle children have their own unique place and viewpoint in this world).  A brilliant older brother, and a cute and somewhat spoiled younger sister make me ripe for that “overachiever, doer, performer mentality”…a mindset I am learning how to change, because, let’s face it, it’s hard on a body…all that overachieving, and performing…..I’m not shooting for couch potato….but how about a balanced, relational, restful person who knows a few boundaries and feels secure.  Sound good to you?

December 1, 2017 was a breaking point for me.  Due to a medication withdrawal from pain medication for the neuropathy in my feet, within 12 hours I was left a shaking mess on my bed, thoughts whirling out of control, brain on fire.  I did not sleep for two weeks, and spent much of that time wondering if I was going to die. It took me months before I could even get up for a few hours.  I was paranoid, felt unsafe all the time and thought, “This is what people must feel like when they have anxiety!”  I had never experienced that before.  I couldn’t function, noise was too much, people were too much, and I cried much of the days, for no apparent reason.

After one year, I felt like I was finally just crawling out the woods, when WHAM, I woke up one morning feeling like I was having a heart attach.  Weird things were going on in my head and I couldn’t collect any thoughts.  Once again I wondered if I was going to die.  These symptoms seemed to occur only when I laid down (which makes sleeping impossible).  I later learned that my autonomic nervous system had malfunctioned, likely due to the trauma of the medication withdrawal and genetic inflammation I was suffering with.  The syndrome is called POTS – postural orthostatic tachacardyia syndrome and, after spending 5 days in Texas consulting with some experts on the matter, I came home armed with supplements and medication to help me recover.

At some point I will go into detail about my story.  It is a fascinating series of dominoes and events that brought me ultimately to this place.  Although I am functioning now and feeling infinitely better than I was, I am not at 100%.  The journey is taking longer than I hoped, but in the meantime, we have discovered so many amazing tools that have changed our lives and the lives of others in need.  And that is what “Minerals and More” is about.  Out of the ashes, something beautiful comes. And we want to share it with you.

Please write back dear friend, or call for a consult.  It can be frightening to not really know what is happening in your body.  We’d like to help you find the resources you need to climb to new heights in your health and wholeness.  We are not afraid of mysterious diseases, weird symptoms or strange behaviours.

Illness is a message we must heed that can become a catalyst for change and growth in our life and body if we let it.  Don’t suffer longer than needed.  We are here to help and there is always hope.

With love,

Cassandra

Mineral Highlight – Calcium

Calcium is a macro mineral.  That means it’s one of the minerals that the body needs  the most; daily!   Calcium and magnesium are two of the most critical minerals in the body and they work synergistically together.  Our minerals are unique in that this elemental, sublingual, angstrom sized supplement goes straight under the tongue and into the blood stream.  Please read the Learn page about minerals because this is a key important factor in using our products.  They DO NOT have to be digested or broken down in the body.  They will not build up in the body.  You will get 100% use.

Calcium is misunderstood by so many people.  Calcium in milk, especially pasteurized milk, which has lost its enzymes, is very difficult to absorb.  Calcium is a metal.  It is on the period table of elements and we forget this sometimes.  Proper calcium supplementation is often the answer to many health issues today.  Here are a few things calcium does in the body besides making strong bones and teeth, which it does well.

Calcium  – (strong bones)

  1. When the body is deficient in calcium the blood will pull the calcium from the bones causing osteoporosis and arthritic conditions.
  2. Calcium allows your body to use fat in a beneficial way.  It keeps your metabolism strong, and keeps you from getting obese.
  3. Women who are deficient in calcium, are much more likely to suffer from PMS. Women need 7 x more calcium than men to perform their bodily functions. Getting proper calcium that can be utilized by the cells can greatly affect a woman’s cycle in positive ways.
  4. Calcium combines with Vitamin D (from light energy) and together they protect your cells from mutation. This is anti-cancerous.  Studies have shown that often cancer patients have low calcium.  Calcium with vitamin D is one simple way to prevent cancer.
  5. Calcium is a partner with magnesium.  They are very synergistic and work together  to keep your heart muscle healthy.

It is easy and simple to supplement with our liquid calcium which bypasses digestion and goes straight into your blood stream.  Since soil is often mineral deficient, it become more difficult to get proper calcium from the food we eat. We recommend our supplements as a part of your daily routine to make sure you get what your body needs.  It will make all the difference in the world!

Calcium-Rich ideas!

Make tea!  Your best bang for your calcium buck is:

-nettle leaves

-raspberry leaves

-comfrey leaves and flowers

-plantain leaves

For 3.1 mg of calcium brew oat straw tea in a thermos overnight (1 cup oatstraw/ 1 quart water)

Add more calcium to your salad with dandelion leaves and flower, and chives and chive flowers.

For more calcium – soak a cinnamon stick in your pot (of tea, or broth).  It adds 52 mg. of calcium!

Sweeten your tea with a tablespoon of molasses to get 33 mg more calcium in your cup!

Want more calcium in your soil?  Compost dry and crushed eggshells and add wood ashes.

Ideas were garnered from “Cooking with Herbs and Spices”, by Lori Nichols-Davies and Larry McCuaid – a cookbook I highly recommend.

The Hormone Balancing Cake (complete with 79 mg of calcium per square)

Nutrients in seeds balance hormones and vital minerals are in abundance in molasses, raw honey and kelp salt. The chloride stimulates HCL in the stomach to digest protein and salt assists in the utilization of amino acids – our basis for making hormones. The gentle heat will protect the fragile essential fatty acids in the ground seeds.

1/2 cup chickpea flour (I have also used buckwheat)

1 1/2 scoops flavoured or unflavoured whey protein powder (chocolate is yummy)

1/2 cup sprouted rolled oats

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp kelp salt, or sea salt with trace minerals

1 cup flaxseed meal

1/4 cup sunflower seed meal

1/4 cup pumpkin seed meal

1/2 cup almond flour

1 cup organic raisins or mixed dried fruit

1 Tbsp. ginger, finely chopped

1/2 cup molasses

2  cups almond milk

2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

1/4 cup raw honey

  1. Make the batter.  Grind all seeds to fresh meal.  In a large bowl mix all dry ingredients thoroughly.  In a four-cup measuring cup, add molasses and almond milk, and then stir into dry mixture.  Now stir in oil and honey.  Turn oven on to 325 degrees.
  2. Choose your pan. Avoid metal pans to avoid metal toxicity.  Use an 8×8 clay or silicon square pan, or use a glass pan coated with butter or extra virgin olive oil.
  3. Bake on middle rack for 50 minutes.
  4. Cool and slice into 16 squares.  Makes an ideal breakfast, snack r dessert.  Refrigerate for 1 week.
